Consolidate Image Files

Consecutive image files in the same generation set may be selected to consolidate into a single image file. Incremental backup tasks may be executed to create incremental backup image files associated with the consolidated image file.

Consolidation tasks may be offloaded to different systems other than backup source machine to consolidate incremental backup files at destination storage or replication target.

* Base backup image files are not supported to include in consolidation.

Image File Set Consolidated at Replication Target

Backup image files in an image file set at Destination storage vs. Replication Target are as follows:

Example

1.      Up to 3 Incremental backups are created.

Destination

Base

Incremental 1

Incremental 2

Incremental 3

2.      Incremental backups numbered 1 to 3 are consolidated to Incremental 3' at the Replication Target.

Destination

Base

Incremental 3'

3.      Incremental 4 is created (Only Incremental 4 is replicated.)

Replication Target

Base

Incremental 3'

Incremental 4

As listed above, the consolidated image files are assigned with the last incremental file number.

The image file set at the Replication Target contains only randomly discrete image files.
However, the continuity of the files is retained, so that Incremental 3' or 4 can be selected to execute a variety of operations.

Operating Procedures

1.      In the image file list select consecutive image files in the same generation set to consolidate into a single image file. "ctrl" + click to select multiple image files.

Ex: To consolidate incremental files from 1 to 10, please select all of them respectively from the list.

2.      Select [Consolidate] in the Operation pane or in the context menu.

3.      The [Consolidation] dialog is displayed.

Review the settings. The following options can be configured.

Option

Item

Description

Keep original image files

The original image files for consolidation are saved in the creation date / time stampted folder in [Consolidate_original] folder.

Compute MD5

Computes MD5 hash value for the consolidated image file.

Execution Priority

Specify the task execution priority level. If you select [Max], the processing requires the most system resource usage and a longer processing time.

Post task execution processing

You can select [Shutdown System] or [Reboot] option for post task execution processing.

Post task processing is executed one minute after completion of the task.

4.      When the settings are completed and you click on [Done], [Dashboard] window is displayed to monitor [Task] execution progress.
